Provenance: Gustaf Oscar Ludvig (Gösta) Nobel (1886-1955), youngest son of Ludvig and Edla Nobel, was in Baku between 1914-17 and later took over as Managing Director over Branobel or "The Nobel Brothers Company". The oil company was founded in Baku by his father and the two brothers Alfred and Robert. He and his family had to flee Russia 1918 during the Russian revolution.
Sir Robert Ker Porter, (1777-1842), Scottish artist, author, diplomat and traveller. Known today for his accounts of his travels in Spain, Portugal and Russia, he was one of the earliest panorama painters in Britain, was appointed historical painter to Tsar Alexander I of Russia and served as British consul in Venezuela. Worn and damaged binding, covers detached, repairs, damaged spine, signature on flyleaf and title page, foxing and staining to text, two last leaves (of Index) loose and with tears. Plates slightly foxed, a few with some staining, 1 folding with small tear, 1 with creases.
