4:o (about 288x225 mm.). (4, lacks half-title, contents, errata and plate list), (i)-xiv, (3), 18-460 pp.
2 engraved maps (all), 18 handcoloured engraved plates (of 20, lacks plate 15 Moscow and 20 Borisoff , partly some offsetting from text to plates and from plates to text, some foxing, woodcut plate missing).
Contemporary red calf, partly worn and partly with bumped corners, 4 gilt borders, between third and fourth borders gilt decoration in the corners, richly gilt somewhat faded spine in five compartments, all edges gilt. Partly some foxing. Bookplate.

Provenance: Gustaf Oscar Ludvig (Gösta) Nobel (1886-1955), youngest son of Ludvig and Edla Nobel, was in Baku between 1914-17 and later took over as Managing Director over Branobel or "The Nobel Brothers Company". The oil company was founded in Baku by his father and the two brothers Alfred and Robert. He and his family had to flee Russia 1918 during the Russian revolution.
