Contemporary full calf, partly worn, split joints, slightly upper cover partly loose, richly gilt spine in compartments, crack to spine, some damages, red speckled edges. Flyleaf partly loose. Minor foxing.
"Contains translations of several pieces selected from many others published by several ingenious members of that great, and hitherto unrivalled school of natural history, the university of Upsal in Sweden, under the presence of Linnaeus "(Preface of the translator). There is also a piece by Linnaeus himself (An Oration concerning travelling in one's own country,), and Stillingfleet's own "Observations on grasses".
The first edition was published in 1759.
